Christof Schlegel is showing two works for the Sukima project: The first work "split dream" that was developed in cooperation with Almut Rink consists of two monitors and two pairs of earphones. It shows two sides of a lopungespace of a Japanese Sauna in a recreational center in Tokio. The space is devided by a wall into a sleeping area for men and one for women. A large moviescreen that can be seen from both sides of the divided space, connects both areas. Although there are American films projected on the screen, people in the loungespace totally neglect the prescence of the movie. It seems that the space is used for sleeping only. In a voiceover, Christof Schlegel who filmed in the men's area and Almut Rink who filmed the women's side describe their impression of each situation. From a European view it is highly unusual that people sleep in public. Very intimate space coincides with shared, public space. At the same time the movie projected on the screen that is ignored by the sleeping audience builds up another layer within this siuation. There is not only a gap through the partition in an area of men and women, but also various spatial and social controversies are produced within this setting. Another videowork "offwalk" by Christof Schlegel shows an endless walk through Sukimaspaces by cutting together collected videomaterial. The video is edited in a way that it seems possible to cross the city by the sukimas, ignoring the paths of the streets. In the video the gaps are used as channels where sound is going to appear at the moment of entering these inbetween spaces. Like the off in cinema created by sound, a way to exceed the realm of the visible on the screen, the gaps are used for an interpretation of the invisible after leaving the surface of the city. Both works are parts within a field of research of spaces of escape within cities by Christof Schlegel and Almut Rink, who are planning to do a further project and a publication in Europe in the beginning of 2002.

クリストフ・シェーゲルはスキマプロジェクトにおいて2つの作品を展開している。： 一つ目はアルムト・リンクとのコラボレーションから発展した2つのモニターと2つのイヤホンから構成される”スピリットドリーム”（分断された夢）という作品で、東京のサウナにある休憩室が映し出されている。 そのスペースは壁によって2つに分断されていて、一つは男性用、もう一つは女性用の睡眠室になっている。 大きなスクリーンで上映されている映像はその分けられた二つの部屋で同時に流れているもので、この二部屋をつなげている。 スクリーンではアメリカ映画が上映されているが、休憩室の人々はその存在を無視するかのようであり、このスペースが睡眠をだけを目的として使用されている印象を受ける。 音源からは男性部屋を撮影したクリストフ・シェーゲルと、女性部屋を撮影したアルムト・リンクの各々の部屋に対する印象を 描写する声が流される。 ヨーロッパ人の観点からすると、人々が公共のスペースで眠るという行為は非日常的である。 非常に密接した空間が合致して公共のスペースとして共有されている。同時に、スクリーンで上映されている睡眠中の観客達に無視されている映画はこの状況の中でもう一つの見解を構築している。 そこには男女のエリアとして分断された空間のスキマだけではなく、空間的、社会的な様々な論点が提議される。 もう一つのクリストフ・シェーゲルによるビデオ作品は”オフウォーク”というタイトルで、収集したビデオ素材を再編集し、スキマの空間を果てしなく歩き続けている映像が映し出されている。 このビデオ作品は歩道を無視してスキマを渡って街を歩く事を可能に見せている。 この作品において、スキマはその空間に入る瞬間に現れる音の通信路として機能している。 映画の終了後スクリーンから得る視覚の領域を凌ぐ音のように、スキマは街の表層を去った後の目に見えないものを演出している。 この2つの作品は都市の逃避空間におけるリサーチの一環としてクリストフ・シェーゲルとアルムト・リンクが制作した。両者はこのリサーチにおいて、2002年の初めにヨーロッパで更なるプロジェクトと出版の公表を予定している。
